অ্যাপ্লাই করার কয়েকটি পর্যায়ের মাঝে সবচেয়ে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ Recommendation letter যা তোমার অ্যাপ্লিকেশনকে অনেক বেশী Strong or Weak করে দিতে পারে।

Recommendation দুই ধরনের। Paper Based or Online Recommendation. নর্থ আমেরিকাতে (কানাডা এবং আমেরিকা) Online Recommendation আর ইউরোপের ক্ষেত্রে Paper Based Recommendation গ্রহণযোগ্য হয়।

Online Recommendation: নর্থ আমেরিকাতে অ্যাপ্লাই করার সময় অনলাইন অ্যাপ্লিকেশনে একটা পর্যায় থাকে Referee’s Information. ওখানে তোমার পরিচিত ৩ জন প্রফেসরের ইনফর্মেশন দিতে বলা হয়। বাইরের ইউনিভার্সিটিগুলু শিক্ষক বলতেই প্রফেসর বোঝে । তাই তুমি তোমার ইউনিভার্সিটি এর Lecturer পোষ্টের শিক্ষক অথবা Assistant Professor এর ইনফর্মেশন দিলেও সমস্যা নেই। Referee’s Information এ থাকে Name of the Referee, Organization, Designation, Phone Number and Email Address. Email Address বলতে ইউনিভার্সিটি ইমেইল এড্রেস বোঝায় । যেমন,[email protected]। অন্য ইমেইল এড্রেস দিলে সত্যতা বিচার হয়না। আবার কখনো বলা থাকে ইউনিভার্সিটি ইমেইল এড্রেস দিতে। ইমেইল এড্রেস দিয়ে দিলেই তোমার কাজ শেষ। তুমি যেই ৩ জন শিক্ষকের নাম এবং ইমেইল এড্রেস দিয়েছ তাদের কাছে ইমেইল যাবে তোমার নামে Reference দিতে। ওখানে বিস্তারিত লিখা থাকবে তুমি কোন বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে, কোন সাবজেক্ট এ অ্যাপ্লাই করেছো।

এখন বিষয় হলো কি কি থাকে সেই Recommendation এ। তোমার শিক্ষক ইমেইল এ প্রাপ্ত লিঙ্ক ক্লিক করলেই ইউনিভার্সিটি এর লিঙ্ক এর সাথে সংযুক্ত হয়ে যাবে এবং ওখানে কিছু প্রশ্নের উত্তর দিতে বলা হবে। বিষয়টি অনেক Confidential।

প্রথম প্রশ্নেই থাকে, In what capacity, how well, and how long have you known the applicant? এখানে তোমার প্রফেসর লিখবে সে তোমাকে কতদিন থেকে এবং কি করে পরিচিত। তোমার প্রফেসর তোমাকে না চিনলেও লিখতে হবে কিছু। আমার ক্ষেত্রে উত্তর ছিলোঃ Md. Mizanur Rahman who is well known to me for about four years as an undergraduate student. He was my direct student from 2007-2011. As an Assistant Professor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) Department, I taught him several courses. As a course teacher I found him very well motivated and a serious student in my class. He first approached me four years ago about the possibility of work in my laboratory. He worked as hard as my best undergraduate student. Md. Mizanur Rahman is a very sincere, punctual and regular student I have ever since in my life. In short, Mr. Rahman has a combination of foremost academic and intellectual ability, research potential, and originality of thinking and clearly defined goals for future studies.

দ্বিতীয় প্রশ্নে থাকে, Does your university offer the graduate degree program this applicant seeks? উত্তর থাকে Yes or no. তোমার ইউনিভার্সিটিতে মাস্টার্স অথবা পি এইচ ডি ডিগ্রি করার সুজুগ থাকলে উত্তর হবে হ্যাঁ না হলে না।

তৃতীয় প্রশ্নে থাকে, If yes, does the applicant meet the minimum admission requirements for acceptance to this program at your university?

চতুর্থ প্রশ্ন হিসেবে থাকে, If this applicant took a course(s) from you, what was his/her rank in the class? এখানে বেশ কিছু কলাম করা থাকে উত্তর দেয়ার জন্য। প্রথমেই থাকে, Course Name, Course No and Rank in the Class. Suppose, your teacher took your class in power electronics and you got A+. Then, answer will be Power Electronics, EEE-4705 and Top 1% or Top 3%.

পঞ্চম প্রশ্নে থাকে, Please rank the applicant as follows: 0 = Poor, 1 = Fair, 2 = Good, 3 = Very Good, 4 = Excellent, 5 = Outstanding। প্রশ্নগুলু :

তোমার যোগ্যতা অনুসারে তোমার প্রফেসর এখানে লিখবে। স্বভাবতই, Very Good or Excellent পেলে অ্যাপ্লিকেশান ভারী হবে।

ষষ্ঠ প্রশ্নে থাকে, Please comment on the applicant’s academic strengths and potential for completing a graduate program. Providing substantial comments with examples will greatly assist in evaluating the applicant. Your comments can exceed the size of the box as shown. এখানে তোমার প্রফেসর তোমার সম্পর্কে বিস্তারিত লিখার সুজুগ পাবে। রিসার্চ সম্পর্কে যত পজিটিভ কথা থাকবে ততো ভালো।

পরবর্তী প্রশ্নে থাকে, For students whose native language is not English, please rank the applicant’s ability (Excellent, satisfactory, poor) to:
a. understand lectures conducted in English:……………………………

c. express herself/himself in written English:……………………………

এর পরেই থাকে, Comments on applicant’s English competency. আমার ক্ষেত্রে উত্তর ছিলোঃ Md. Mizanur Rahman has excellent written and verbal communication skills, is extremely organized, reliable and computer literate. He has proved his proficiency in English through IELTS, TOEFL and GRE. He can communicate fluently in English also can understand any topics taught in English. The medium of instruction of his previous study was in English. As the applicant is serving as a lecturer of a university therefore he takes undergraduate classes in English. Therefore, he will be a suitable master’s student in your program

অনেক সময় তুমি যেই প্রফেসরের নাম দিয়েছ সে হয়তো তোমাকে ভালো করে চিনেনা। তাই নাম দেয়ার সময় ভেবে চিন্তে দেয়া ভালো। আমার মতে যে সব প্রফেসর ভালো Recommend করবে তাদের নাম দেয়া ভালো। In my case. I used all the names of Assistant Professor who knows me well and Recommended for me strongly. তোমার প্রফেসর Recommendation Submit করে দিলে তোমার অ্যাপ্লিকেশান লিঙ্কে তুমি দেখতে পাবে Recommendation Submitted. যতক্ষণ পর্যন্ত ৩ জনের Recommendation কমপ্লিট হবেনা ততক্ষণ পর্যন্ত তোমার অ্যাপ্লিকেশান দেখাবে Incomplete.

Paper Based Recommendation: পেপার Based Recommendation এর ক্ষেত্রে তোমার প্রফেসর তোমার সম্পর্কে বিস্তারিত ইউনিভার্সিটি এর লোগো যুক্ত পেপারে লিখবে। তারপর নিচে তার স্বাক্ষর এবং সিল সহ তোমার কাছে দিয়ে দিবে। অবশ্যই মনে করে Department থেকে খাম নিয়ে নিতে হবে।

Recommendation plays a vital role in application. so try to motivate your teacher so that he recommends positively. Your teacher will answer everything according to your transcript. When he will give tour recommendation, he will ask to give him a copy of your transcript. So, everything will be fair.
